Happy New Year
Yeah, I’m a little late with my New Year wishes but Better late than never, right?
I hope your holidays were healthier than mine. I got the cold/flu going around Southern California and was down for the count.
I was completely offline for five days!! Needless to say, I was excited when I could finally stay up long enough to get back to my computer and the Internet!
Fun Fantasy & SciFi New For You
12 Monkeys: The First Nine Minutes
I’m sure you have been hearing about this new series base on the old 1995 film of the same name. You know Bruce Willis, saving the world and nominated for best actor, Madeleine Stowe, nominated for best actresses, and Brad Pit, being crazy and won best supporting actor. I was a little dubious about 12 Monkeys becoming a TV show, but the sneak peek looks interesting.
Click here for io9’s take on and review of the new series.
Here are the first nine minutes of the pilot that airs Friday, January 16, 2014.
Game of Thrones actor Kit Harrington Defends Violence
Here’s the link to the article: “Game of Thrones star Kit Harington defends violence in HBO fantasy drama even though it’s ‘gory as hell'”
Game of Thrones fans aren’t likely to find a problem with Kit Harrington’s (Jon Snow) defense of HBO violence, but what do you think? Can we wage war, watch clean, antiseptic news reports, and then claim that a program about war shouldn’t be violent? No one would claim that war isn’t violent and often inhumane. I suspect real war is worse than Game of Thrones. Is the violence too much?
25 Most Anticipated Fantasy & SciFi Books For 2015
The blog Geekritique has a great list: “The 25 Most Anticipated Science Fiction & Fantasy Books of 2015” On his list is Pierce Brown’s book The Golden Son, the second book of the Red Rising Trilogy, which came out yesterday, and for Brian Sanderson fans, Firefight, the second Reckoners book, by Brandon Sanderson. See the post for the entire list and a short blurb about each book.
William Gibson Fans
In 1985, William Gibson wrote Neuromancer, which turned out to be a groundbreaking science fiction book. He coined the term “cyberspace” and changed things in science fiction and beyond. Well, he’s written a new science fiction book, The Peripheral. Check out “Time traveling with the author who coined the term ‘cyberspace'” an article about Gibson and his new book.
He’s a very forward thinking author, and some of his ideas have predicted the future–like the world wide Internet. This new book should be interesting.
